“Some people say that I should study at school to become a climate scientist so that I can solve the climate crisis,” she said. “But we already have all the facts that show us how we can solve the problem. That gives us a little hope. And hope is essential.” She continued, “The one thing we need more than hope is action. Once we start to act, hope is everywhere. All we have to do is wake up and change.”
Since 2018, Greta has become the face of school walkouts around the world. But she reflected, “I was always a girl in the back who didn’t say anything. I didn’t think I could make a difference because I was too small.”
Now, Greta believes that no one is too small to make a difference. Every single person can play a part in our future. “Everything needs to change,” she said. “And it has to start today.”
